From clay to your favorite piece – discover how our colorful stoneware is made!
Our hand-stamped stoneware is characterized by its intricate patterns and handcrafted design. The patterns are applied by hand using various stamps and complemented with hand-painted details. This creates tableware with an individual character and a truly unique look.
But how exactly does clay become a colorful mug? We take you behind the scenes and show you step by step how our stoneware is made.
STEP 1 – IT ALL STARTS WITH CLAY
First, clay minerals and material scraps from production are mixed with water. The resulting mass is drained, de-aired, and processed into a uniform consistency. This creates the foundation for further shaping.
STEP 2 – THE TABLEWARE TAKES SHAPE
The basic shapes of the tableware are created using rotating molds and profiling tools. Then, for example, the handles of the mugs are attached by hand.
STEP 3 – DRYING AND FIRST FIRING
The shaped pieces dry for several days until the residual moisture has evaporated. This is followed by the first firing process, known as bisque firing, at around 900–1,000 °C. During this process, the clay becomes solid but initially remains porous.
STEP 4 – NOW COMES THE COLOR!
After preparing the ceramic colors, the decorating begins. Various stamps are used to apply the patterns by hand, piece by piece. Then, fine details are painted by hand.
Careful placement of the individual patterns and the combination of colors are essential.
STEP 5 – GLAZING AND SECOND FIRING
The decorated pieces are dipped in a transparent glaze. Excess glaze is removed, and the foot mark is applied after drying.
This is followed by the second firing at around 1,200–1,300 °C. At these temperatures, the dense stoneware with its characteristic material properties is formed.
STEP 6 – THE FINAL TOUCH
Before the tableware is packaged, a quality control check is carried out. During this process, the pieces are inspected for cracks, glazing defects, and deformations, among other things.
The finished products are then packaged for transport.
EVERY PIECE HAS ITS OWN CHARACTER
Due to the handcrafted design, slight visual differences in color, pattern, and placement may occur. These variations are characteristic of the technique used and give each piece of tableware its unique look.
Whether at breakfast, during a coffee break, or at dinner together – our colorful stoneware collections bring color and unique patterns to your table.
